Water section

Groundwater is used in nearly 90% of inhabited Québec and is sourced by 20% of the population. It is often the sole economically viable source of water, due to its generally good quality and proximity to place of consumption. While hidden and out of sight, groundwater can be vulnerable to the many sources of contamination that stem from human activity. The treatment of contaminated groundwater can be lengthy, expensive and, in some cases, impossible. This is why it is so important to ensure the intelligent management and appropriate protection of this resource.
