AMENDMENT TO THE REGLEMENT RESPECTING WASTE WATER DISPOSAL SYSTEMS FOR ISOLATED DWELLINGS IN THE BASSE-CÔTE-NORD REGION

Québec City, August 6, 2008 – The Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, Line Beauchamp, announced the passage of an amendment to the Regulation respecting waste water disposal systems for isolated dwellings (Q-2, r.8) that applies to the Basse-Côte-Nord region.

Thanks to this regulation we will be able to implement a procedure to authorize projects that will enable us, through a remedial action plan, to adapt technical solutions to treat waste water, based on the physical characteristics of the region. This process will consequently reduce public health risks that can arise as a result of the region’s unique characteristics” declared the Minister.

It is important to remember that the Basse-Côte-Nord region has no permanent link to the provincial road network, lacks the basic fill material necessary to build water treatment systems other than the certified systems set forth in the regulation and has a natural soil that is ill-suited to seepage.

Information on this topic and a copy of the regulation are available at the Web site of the Ministère.
